Paying Homage: Oscar Micheaux’s “Body & Soul” (1925)

As the first major African American filmmaker to write, produce, direct and distribute his own body of work, Oscar Micheaux is regarded as one of the best storytellers when recounting African-American life.

In this race film, we are privileged to witness the motion picture debut of another great, Paul Robeson….(sidenote, did you know he had a mountain named after him in Russia?? Robeson mountain) lol..look it up! I digress….

So, if you’re even in the Hollywood area and happen to see OSCAR MICHEAUX’s name etched in one of those rose-colored stars, take a moment to pay homage. He literally paved the way for thousands of us thespians along the way. Salute and enjoy!
